Since launching in March, it’s been a busy few months for our ReBalance artists.
They all spent time writing and demoing new songs before meeting their paired producers, to be ready for recording at various studios around the UK. If you’ve been following along on our socials you’ll have seen the first glimpse of Red Ivory – we caught up with them via email for a little more insight.
Hi Red Ivory! Looking back, how was your time recording at Strongroom Studios?
Ivy: Such a productive and welcoming energy, really great. The studio space was so cool and very different to the place we previously worked in.
Berry: I loved Strongroom, the art inside and the equipment available to us. The whole energy felt very natural for us – I loved being able to experiment and have so much control and say over what was being created.
Was there a favourite moment during the five days of recording?
Frida: Getting to see everything come together was probably our favourite part of writing and recording.
Ivy: When certain overdubs – for example, the clarinet – or backing vocals were added it was really exciting because it was a bigger and more complex sound than we hear in our regular rehearsals.
What was it like working with Adele Phillips?
Ivy: Adele was great, really professional but also had such a great sense of humour and let us have a lot of fun in the process, Orla (Carey, mix engineer) was amazing too.
Berry: Adele was the best. We got on so well with her, she really listened and was so artistic with her input. I wish we could work together again.
Frida: She is very professional and accommodating and explained everything really well.
What have you learned from the process so far?
Ivy: I’ve learnt that you can always do more, always perfect and perfect and perfect.
Berry: It was really cool learning a bit about the mixing/mastering process through our discussions with Orla and Adele.
Favourite track you’ve recorded?
Frida & Ivy: Crashing down is our favourite!
Berry: Hate the way, because of the experimental ways we used our instruments like tissue paper on the snare and playing by the tuning pegs of the guitar.
There’s much more to come from Red Ivory, keep your eyes on the socials linked below for further updates on all artists.
