Red Ivory is a band from South East London. We started at school with no idea what we were getting ourselves into, messing around in the music rooms, and have grown from there – jumping at any chance to perform. Since getting into London’s underground music scene at the beginning of last year, we’ve been out and about showcasing our sound. Our first introduction to our instruments was together as a band, meaning we have grown together and are very in tune with our playing and writing – everything is collaborative and there is no “leader.” Although the scene is very inviting, when we started people’s immediate reaction was often to patronise and underestimate us as musicians and people, shocked that four teenage girls could write music – some even assumed we were a cover band. We haven’t fully developed our sound yet but we write what we want, when we want to – our influences are not restricted to a certain genre or era. It’s true to ourselves and who we are, and no one’s gonna shut us up.
