Mary O’Donnell

Mary O’Donnell writes music with folk as her main influence, with songs that delve into themes of womanhood, heartbreak, and healing – creating captivating stories that resonate with listeners. Drawing inspiration from her own life experiences, Mary’s lyrics are heartfelt and relatable, allowing her to connect deeply with her audience. She admires artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Ben Howard and Ray LaMontagne, who have influenced her musical style; she loves the intimate, acoustic sound. Growing up, Mary was strongly influenced by the country/rock/folk music her parents listened to such as Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Guy Clark. Mary has played guitar since the age of eight and began writing her own material in her early teens. Starting her musical journey in Brighton, Mary honed her skills through busking and open mic performances, and now she’s based in London, studying a Songwriting degree at BIMM. Although Mary usually plays on her own as a solo artist she has recently made great headway fronting a band. In 2023 she began performing across London, with shows at the Hope and Anchor, 93 Feet East, and The Garage, amongst others.
